April Time Code
Mike Figgis' experimental Time Code opens at theatres and is applauded by critics.
The movie is an experiment in unscripted cinema. It was shot a total of 15 times using 4 handheld digital cameras that ran non-stop for 93 minutes. Figgis chose the last version for the final film which runs in real-time, exactly as filmed with no editing on 4 separate frames on the movie screen.

Controversy arises when Jennifer Lopez commits to a competitive Frida Kahlo biopic produced by Francis Ford Coppola.
Jennifer Lopez's project will be directed by Luis Valdez titled "The Two Fridas" with no cast announced yet.
Julie Taymor will direct Miramax's "Frida Kahlo" with Alfred Molina, Ashley Judd, Antonio Banderas and Edward Norton aboard.

The black comedy Chain of Fools starring Salma Hayek and Steve Zahn among others is not released at theaters. Warner Bros. decides for a release on video or cable TV.
The latest news are that there will be a world premiere for the movie in March 2001, Stockholm, Sweden.

October Salma lives la gran vida
La Gran Vida, Salma's first Spanish movie, premieres in Madrid and opens in Spain.
The romantic comedy is directed by Antonio Cuadri and stars Carmelo Gomez and Tito Valverde.
The movie does fairly well at the boxoffice and will be distributed by Columbia TriStar as "Living It Up" for an international release.

In The Time Of The Butterflies
Salma's ambitious movie In The Time Of The Butterflies (En el Tiempo de las Mariposas) is filmed in Mexico City and Veracruz.
The movie deals with the true story of the three Mirabel sisters fighting against the dictatorship in the Dominican Republic.
Salma produces and stars in this movie with some of the finest Mexican actors: Edward James Olmos, Mia Maestro, Lumi Cavazos and Demián Bichir, to name just a few.
The release is set for April 1, 2001 on Showtime TV.
