Salma supports Cuarón
'Y tu Mamá También' (And your mother, too) has the support of Salma Hayek, who thinks it must win the Golden Globe

Salma Hayek has great confidence in the film 'Y tu Mamá También' which is nominated for a Golden Globe that will be given out next Sunday in Beverly Hills.
The actress talks with Esmas.com at the Critics' Choice Awards 2002 where she is nominated for best actress in a movie made for television for 'In the time of the butterflies'.
"It is wonderful to me (that they have nominated the film for a Golden Globe), the film enchanted me and I think that it has good chances to win. I say that the strong contender is 'Amelie', but I also like 'Y tu mama tambien' so we will see what happens. If they have good taste the Mexican film will win.".
The actress is sorry that the film by Alfonso Cuarón has not been chosen to represent Mexico at the Oscars.
"Yes, I am sad. I have not seen the film that they sent, but it seems to be a shame that Y tu mama tambien has not been chosen, because it is very good.
The three actors (Gael García, Diego Moon and Maribel Verdú) play wonderful roles."
How do you think has it changed the attitude of American producers towards Mexican cinema?
"I think it is very good that Mexico has produced films that are on the level of Amores Perros and also Y tu mama tambien.
Hopefully, this will motivate people to make better movies every year so that we will have strong presence at the Oscars."
When will Frida be released?
This October.
Salma competed with Emma Thompson (Wit) and Judy Davis (Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows) in the ceremony. The prize finally went to Davis.
What does this nomination mean for you?
"I am very content because they put me next to two actresses who have always been my idols. Also because my film was received very well by critics and thanks
for the attention that is being paid to the work that we did last year in Mexico."
"It is a political drama which is not very popular in Hollywood and my nomination demonstrates that the critics are interested in the subject and that they appreciate the history of our people."
"It is also important for my company, Ventanarosa, that produced it for Showtime because raising projects like this one is difficult."
What does the nomination mean for your people?
"It is very important because as you know these critics are very hard to please and they do not nominate things that are nothing but commercial. They are severe and it was a surprise that they nominated me as best actress because very good films for television were made the last year."
At the arrival to the hotel Beverly Hills, Salma knew that she was not going to win since the competition was very hard. Nevertheless, she was happy with the fact that she was nominated.
"I am not going to win, it would feel very badly if I won against the wonderful competition."

LOS ÁNGELES, Estados Unidos, ene. 16, 2001.- Salma Hayek tiene mucha confianza en que el filme Y Tu Mamá También haga un buen papel en la próxima entrega de los Globos de Oro, que se realizará este domingo en Beverly Hills.
La actriz charló en exclusiva para EsMas.com en esta ciudad durante la Séptima Entrega Anual de Críticos en Hollywood, donde ella estaba nominada en la categoría de Mejor Actriz por En el Tiempo de las Mariposas.
"Me parece maravilloso (que la hayan nominado al Globo de Oro), me encantó la película y pienso que tiene buena oportunidad de ganar. Dicen que la fuerte es Amelie, a mi me gusta más Y Tu Mamá También, así que veremos qué pasa. Si tienen buen gusto debe ganar la mexicana".
La actriz lamentó que la cinta de Alfonso Cuarón no haya sido elegida, por la Academia Cinematográfica Mexicana, para representar a México en la entrega del Oscar.
"Si estoy triste. No he visto la película que enviaron, pero me parece una tristeza que Y Tu Mamá También no haya sido escogida, porque es muy buena.
"Los tres actores (Gael García, Diego Luna y Maribel Verdú) hacen un papel estupendo".
¿Cómo crees que ha cambiado la visión de los ejecutivos de Hollywood hacia las cintas mexicanas?
"Pienso que ha sido muy bueno que consecutivamente México haya producido dos películas que están al nivel de Amores Perros y Y Tu Mamá También. No es nada más una buena película, sino que se siente un seguimiento. Ojalá que esto motive mucho para que México siga produciendo año con año mejores filmes y que tengamos una presencia fuerte en el Oscar".
¿Cuándo estrenas Frida? "Para octubre de este año".

Salma compitió en la ceremonia junto con Emma Thompson (Wit) y Judy Davis (Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows), premio que finalmente fue para Davis.
¿Qué significa para ti esta nominación?
"Estoy muy contenta porque me pusieron al lado de dos actrices que para mi siempre han sido mis ídolos. También porque mi película tuvo muy buena aceptación de la crítica y gracias a eso hay una presencia sobre el trabajo que hicimos el año pasado en México.
"Es un drama político que no es muy popular en Hollywood y el hecho que me nominen demuestra que los críticos están interesados en el tema y que aprecian las historias de nuestra gente.
"Para mi compañía, Ventanarosa, que la produjo para Showtime también es importante porque levantar proyectos como estos es difícil".
¿Cómo ves la nominación para tu carrera?
"Es muy importante porque como tu sabes estos críticos son muy duros y no nominan a las cosas que son mas comerciales. Son severos y fue una sorpresa para mi que me nominaran como Mejor Actriz porque el año pasado se hicieron muy buenas películas para televisión".
A su llegada al hotel Beverly Hills, donde fue el evento, Salma sabía que no iba a ganar ya que la competencia era muy dura. Sin embargo, ella con el simple hecho de estar nominada estaba contenta.
"Yo se que no voy a ganar, me sentiría muy mal si ganara con esa competencia tan maravillosa".
