Exclusive tonight: Salma Hayek has a new look as we take you on location to Mexico in the movie she beat out two other stars to make.

Salma Hayek: "Hi, this is Salma Hayek. Welcome to the set of Frida. It's another ET Special."

With eyebrows courtesy of a make-up artist Salma has transformed herself into Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico's most legendary painters.

Salma Hayek: "I've been dying to play this part for a long time."

It's been 6 years that Salma has struggled to roll cameras on this hot property. Along the way, both Madonna and Jennifer Lopez tried to develop their own movies but Salma beat them to the punch.

Salma Hayek: "It's always been my project even though some other people decided to do their own projects."

Set to be released next year the film also stars Alfred Molina as Frida's husband, artist Diego Rivera.

Salma Hayek as Frida Kahlo on set: "What's you're name again?"

Alfred Molina as Diego Rivera on set: "Diego."

Salma Hayek: "We're making a period love story that is.. and that's very very exciting."

Salma's enthusiasm helped to win Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush to play exiled Russian politician Leon Trotsky.

Geoffrey Rush: "There was something in her eyes that said she was gonna see it through."

Salma Hayek as Frida Kahlo on set: "Nastrovje."

Cheering: "Salut."

Salma even picked up a brush for the first time and learned to paint in the style of these authentic colour paintings.

Salma Hayek: "When you see me painting, it's always me and never like a funny hand."

Frida features cameos from Antonio Banderas, Ashley Judd and Salma's boyfriend Edward Norton, who also worked on the script.
